Air India Was Invited In 2007 For Star Alliance

Originally in December 2007, Air India was chosen as a future member of Star Alliance, but the integration process back then was marred by Air India’s struggle in terms of both market share and administrative issues. Hence, the integration process was halted in mid 2011. One of the primary reasons was to give Air India the time on completing its merger.

Fast forward in 2013, Air India is improving market share, passenger revenue, on-time flight schedules and load factor, which obviously showed in its recent improved financial figures. So, sighted as the good time to bring the Indian airline into the Star Alliance, officials finally gave a green-signal for re-integration of Air India in the global network of airlines.

Star Alliance Assessment Soon Starts For Air India

It’s expected that the Star Alliance Team will arrive in India on December 18. The Star Alliance team will carry out its assessment starting from gap analysis. It’s expected that the entire assessment process will take 3-4 months but it will depend on what they would require. Gap analysis is a framework that the assessment team will use to determine the steps needed to be taken to move Air India from the current state to the desired goal. In this assessment the focus would be on integrating Air India’s network with that of the 28- member Star Alliance.

Finally, a good  news for Air India!
