Comscore, the analytic company, reported in its latest release about web users that India has bypassed Japan to become the world’s 3rd largest Internet user after China and the United States. Comscore also reported that India’s users are significantly younger than those of other emerging economies, three-fourths of India’s online population is under the age of 35, fascinating isn’t it?
The Comscore report said that India now has nearly 74 million Internet users, a 31% increase over March 2012. The Indian Telecom Regulatory body, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), reported that the number of Internet users in India are 165 million as of March 31, 2013, with 7 out of 8 accessing the Internet from their mobile phones.

In India Men under the age of 35 and women aged between 35 and 44 are heavier users, but women account for less than 40% of all Indian internet users, a very low men to women ratio compared to all other emerging countries. Google is the most popular website in India, followed by social media website Facebook, where the most internet users spend their time in India. Wikipedia is another resource that is quite popular among the Indian population. Among the social media websites, Linkedin and Twitter are the next most popular, while Orkut has almost declined to death.
