Marissa Mayer might have made a strong public statement that Yahoo is a company about products not media, but she is certainly not a deal breaker if something relevant comes her way from the media industry….And this is exactly what has happened.

YAHOO INKS A DEAL WITH WENNER MEDIA

Yahoo Inc. has very recently inked a deal with the media company called Wenner Media. According to the deal between Yahoo and Wenner Media, the former will get some real estate on Wenner Media’s websites, and the Wenner media will get the dedicated space on Yahoo Music and Yahoo’s OMG entertainment websites. Now Wenner Media will be able to sell its Yahoo pages to advertisers and will share the revenue with Yahoo.

WENNER MEDIA AND YAHOO INC. GOING FORWARD

Going forward the two companies are expected to not only work together but also create new properties that should appear on both sites. Both ventures are expected to be in video form: For Yahoo Music, a series of in-studio, behind-the-scenes footage of musicians that Rolling Stone will procure.

MAYER PERSISTING WITH LEVINSOHN’S IDEAS

Clearly, the deal with Wenner Media is a clear indication that Mayer has decided to go ahead with the deals covered by her predecessor, Ross Levinsohn. The deal is obviously worth taking a note because it’s the deal that started while Levinsohn was still running the show at Yahoo. Many also suspect that Mickie Rosen, one of Levinsohn’s key man has a big role in playing his part in the latest deal. Whatever may be the case, this move has made clear that Mayer is flexible with her ideas and ready to chance her arms wherever Yahoo can make some good money.
