APPLE WINS PATENT INFRINGEMENT CASE, SAMSUNG TO PAY $1.05 BILLION
After the so called big battle of tech world went live, Apple Vs Samsung, almost everyone got glued to what was really coming out on each and every day of hearing taking place at the American courtrooms. Well, finally there is a decision.
APPLE VS SAMSUNG VERDICT
As reported by Bloomberg, the verdict was a complete whitewash victory for Apple against Samsung. The jury voted that nearly every one of Samsung’s devices infringed on Apple patents aside from its tablets. Yes, there were many individual devices that escaped the fury of the jury on one patent or another, but almost every one of Apple’s utility and design claims scored against the Samsung’s.
The verdict was heavily in Apple’s favor with the jury finding Samsung guilty of infringing on almost all Apple patents and concluding that Apple did not infringe on Samsung’s wireless communication technology patents. Despite a comprehensive victory, it surely was not a clean sweep for Apple. The jury did not agree to some of Apple’s claims based around the iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablet.
SAMSUNG DAMAGES IN PATENT INFRINGEMENT
Samsung is now ordered by the court to give Apple $1.05 Billion in damages over trade dress and patent violations for iPhone and iPad. The damages were spread out over all of the various Samsung devices. The jury also found that Samsung willfully engaged in the patent infringements, which definitely drove up the cost of damages.
IS IT REALLY A BIG LOSS FOR SAMSUNG ?
Looks Like it’s a big win for Apple, but is it really a big victory? Remember that Microsoft paid Skype $8 Billion for patent infringement, considering that it certainly invokes a thought if this is a lucky escape for Samsung, until they are asked to cut their manufacturing.
