Gangs of Wasseypur, a lot has been said about the movie…from the bold dialogues to the Cannes Film Festival standing ovation, so we thought it will be almost unjustifiable to bring a genuine after film review. Nevertheless, without any disappointment here you go-

The subject of the film is obviously not something new, rather it is the old wine sold in a new bottle, of course with perfection. What really captures everyone’s interest is the title itself – Gangs of Wasseypur !! To start with the title of the movie is really catchy, considering it raises everyone’s curiosity levels about the place called- Wasseypur now Dhanbad.

The plot revolves around the coal mining mafia in and around Wasseypur, and how the mafias engage into gang wars of power and money. Despite being predictable the story pulls off nicely without really causing any stagnation, the plot moves from one generation to another and by the end of the movie the audiences have already witnessed three generations. Yet you will never find the story disconnected, and that’s probably one of the biggest assets of the movie.

Manoj Bajpai, the champion actor in similar roles, does an absolute brilliant job with his acting and screen presence. Anurag Kashyap, the director of the movie, has done an excellent job by running his Gang of Wasseypur brigade under the umbrella of class act in lead by Manoj Bajpai. Anurag Kashyap known for making critically acclaimed movies with rather unknown or fresh star-cast has certainly pulled it off again with his young and fresh Gang of Wasseypur team. Each and every single actor and actress in the movie has acted to perfection, in terms of performance all characters have landed their parts absolutely brilliantly. A special round of applause for the young turks of Gangs of Wasseypur, going by the bold performances and the glimpse of talents shown by them, it is almost certain that we are soon going to see them in many more movies to come in the future.

The music of the movie is really nice, long before the official release of music of the Gangs of Wasseypur, the raunchy numbers of the movie had gained special buzz among the masses. The songs such as: I’m Hunter, Bihar ke lala, O womaniya are all different and yet have the grasp of special melodious yet carefree thing to its music. Overall, the music of the movie is an absolute delight.

Having said that Gangs of Wasseypur is not a movie for light hearted and might not go well with many sections of the society. The violence in the movie is shown in its supreme raw form and all you hear throughout the movie is- gunshots, knife stabbing, bombs, slaps, and abusive language.

Overall, the movie is a fantastic entertainer and one cannot miss the opportunity of seeing such a powerful action packed different movie. By the way, if you do not know there is a Gangs of Wasseypur Part-2 soon coming, as Part-1 ends with the story still being incomplete. Yet, we reiterate you cannot miss to watch Gangs of Wasseypur, a must !!

CITYHYD Rating: 4 Stars, Can’t miss this one !!
