The head of BCCI’s technical committee and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, backing major revamp of the Ranji Trophy has recommended that the Elite and Plate Divisions should be no more carried forward, hence, making it a 27-team tournament.

It is believed that the BCCI’s Working Technical Committee will now study the recommendations and decide on whether to implement them or not. As per the latest recommendations, the 27 teams will be divided into 3 groups of 9 teams each and each team will play 8 matches in the league stage. The quarterfinals and semifinals will also be five-day affairs now.

Ganguly told media- “We have recommended two major changes in Ranji Trophy format. There will be nine teams in three groups A, B and C. Each team will play eight matches in the league stage and there will be promotion and relegation.”

Later Ganguly also added that the new changes will make the Ranji Trophy tournament even. The new format brings parity in the number of matches that the teams will play against each other in the league stage.

Looks like few major revamps have been suggested by Dada, let’s see if we see a re-fabricated Ranji Trophy coming season !!
