India’s Asian Games champion, Sudha Singh, secured a London Olympic Games birth by cracking the Olympic ‘B’ standard mark in 3000m steeplechase at the Iberoamericano de Atletismo Championship at Huelva (Spain) on Friday. The runner from UP also improved her personal national record of 9:49.25 sec by completing the race in 9:47.70 seconds. She finished 11th in a field of 22 competitors. The London Olympics ‘B’ standard mark stands at 9:48.


Sudha Singh has been training with world-renowned distance coach, Claudio Berardelli, for the past 5 months and she is hopeful of further improving her time. Post 3-month high-altitude training stint in Kenya, Sudha had shifted base to Italy.

 The 25-year-old athlete is expected to compete in a two more races to further polish her hurdling and water-jumping skills in Europe before the London Olympics.
