SHANGHAI MOVIE REVIEW
So, Shanghai is finally on-air!!
The movie has been creating great pre-release excitement and, no doubt, it is one of the best works of Dibakar Banerjee, who has films such as Khosla Ka Ghosla, Dev D and Love, Sex and Dhokha.
The story of Shanghai is certainly not what we call as a typical bollywood ‘Mirch Masala movie’, but it is based on the raw truths of the current political scenario in our country.
The plot of the Shanghai starts from the killing of a political activist (Prosenjit Chatterjee), who was against the building of an infrastructure project in a small town called Bharat Nagar by the ruling political party. Though it is initially depicted as a drunken accident, Shalini (Kalki Koechlin) refuses to accept it as an accident but calls it as a murder. Emraan Hashmi plays a porn filmmaker, who claims to have the proofs against the ruling political party. Abhay deol plays a high profile bureaucrat, who has been appointed to investigate the murder case.
Overall, all actors in the movie have done a brilliant job. Abhay Deol, portraying an IAS officer, makes a mark for his role. Kalki’s role somewhat looked similar to her roles in her other flicks such as Shaitan, That Girl In Yellow Boots and Dev D. Despite that Kalki has done a wonderful job.
The surprise package of the film is Mr Serial Kisser, Emraan Hashmi. Emraan has essayed a completely new role in the movie that you have never seen before. Emraan Hashmi has certainly proved his core acting skills in the movie Shanghai.
The song ‘Bhaarat Mata Ki Jai’ needs a special shout as it has already created a lot of good buzz around.
One has to say that Shanghai is a very versatile and clear movie. A well made film with super performances by all its actors, Shanghai is brilliant work !!
CITYHYD recommendation: 4 Stars, Go and see it, must watch !!
